How does tap work?

Near Field Communication (NFC) technology is on all modern phones (starting with iPhone 7 and Android phones since 2012). NFC transmissions are short range (from a touch to a few centimeters) and require the devices to be in close proximity. The OVOU card has an encoded chip that can be read by an NFC-equipped phone.

NFC chips in Android phones are often in the middle of the phone while iPhones have NFC chip at the top (tap near the camera). The NFC is always enabled on an iPhone; no ability to turn NFC off, but for Android, you have to enable it yourself through the settings.

When you tap your OVOU card on a phone, the phone reads the encoded chip and will retrieve your OVOU profile from the Cloud.

As older phones do not have NFC we have included a QR code that can be scanned and will connect the phone to your OVOU profile.
